Russia. Realism. XXI century

December 8th, 2018 - January 31th, 2019

On December 7, 2018, after a large-scale reconstruction, the long-awaited opening of the Gallery of Modern Art of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan will take place.

The building was built in 1979 in the aesthetics of neo-brutalism as the Exhibition Hall of the Union of Artists of the TASSR. For this project, the architect G. A. Bakulin in 1981 received the title of laureate of the Gabdulla Tukai Tatarstan  State Award. The author of the sculpture at the entrance is R. P. Kharitonov. The exhibition hall was opened in 1980 with the large-scale Zone Exhibition “The Big Volga”. In 2009, the building was transferred to the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan, in 2017–2018 – modernized.

The Contemporary Art Gallery of the National Museum of Fine Arts (hereinafter referred to as the State Museum of Fine Arts) marks  renovation with three exhibitions. “Russia. Realism. XXI century ” is the first of them.
